Voluntary activities for civil protection-III As previously, the illustrator Evelyne Bermann designed the third part of the stamp edition „Voluntary civil protection work“ which, following on from the Fire brigade (2008) and the Samaritans (2009), shows two further institutions that provide a public service: The Mountain Rescue Service (value CHF 0.85) and The Water Rescue Service (value CHF 1.30). The mountain rescue service in the Liechtenstein alps are called to search for missing persons in impassable areas as well as recovering people after climbing accidents, whilst the water rescue services are responsible for vehicle, rescue and search in and around water as well as control and maintenance of ground water collectors and ducts.
Contemporary architecture – III In the current third part of the series „Contemporary architecture - III“ Philatelie Liechtenstein shows two buildings erected at the beginning of this millenium in Liechtenstein, which - due to their remote location - remain quite solitary. The Natural Gas Filling Station (value CHF 2.60) which was built by the architectural office EFFEFF in Vaduz after being assigned the contract by the Liechtenstein government in 2001. The rather extraterrestrial looking building in the industrial area of Vaduz can be seen at best at night. On the second stamp is the Electric Power Station which belongs to the Liechtenstein electricity board (Liechtensteinische Kraftwerke) in Schaan (value CHF 3.60). The architect Marcel Ferrier created a cylinder shaped construction equipped with a large sign made out of photovoltaic plates which follow the progression of the sun.
Agriculture in Liechtenstein For the realisation of the four stamps on the subject agriculture the illustrator Silvia Ruppen drew in pen using colours that could be related to the seasons. The first stamp„Space“ (value CHF 0.85) depicts the typical parcelling and the convergence of living, recreation and agricultural land in Liechtenstein. The respectful handling of the „Environment“ (value CHF 1.00) is placed by the artist on the second stamp depicting the still typical style of hillside farming. The third stamp of the series is devoted to the „Technique“ (value CHF 1.10) used in farming whereas the forth stamp shows an image of species appropriate cow keeping with the theme „Animals“ (value CHF 1.30).
The stamps are available from 1st March 2010 at all post offices in Liechtenstein.
