Since 1872, a single, almost nine-kilometre-long railway line has run
through the Principality on a single track. It is part of the connection
between Feldkirch (Austria) and Buchs (Switzerland) via Schaan
(Liechtenstein) and is operated jointly by the three countries. In the
small country, the stops Schaan-Vaduz, Forst-Hilti and Nendeln are
served by regional trains and are used mostly by commuters on their way
to work.
The souvenir sheet with the anniversary stamps "150
Years of the Feldkirch-Schaan-Buchs Railway Line" (face value: CHF 1.80)
is a unique joint issue by the postal companies of Austria,
Liechtenstein and Switzerland. It shows all three special stamps of the
neighbouring countries with photographs of different train compositions;
in Liechtenstein it is the 4024 series.
In each country, only
that country’s own stamp is perforated on the souvenir sheet and shows
the respective face value. However, a cancelled souvenir sheet with all
the face values will also be available. In addition, the postal
companies are organising an anniversary event in Feldkirch on 9 and 10
September 2022, where the stamps will also be cancelled on request.
