Panorama - Waters (2020) Special stamp MiNr. 1978-1981 - Maximum card MK 479
220.05.62

The popular special stamp series on the theme of nature in Liechtenstein is being continued with two bodies of water. The panorama motifs by photographer Dietmar Walser were once again selected in a nationwide photo competition organised by Fotoclub Spektral. The two panoramic views are both divided in the middle, thus producing four stamps. They show the area of "Schwabbrünnen" (left and right, face value: CHF 1.00 each) and the "Valünerbach" stream (left and right, face value: CHF 1.00 each) and are found twice each on an eight-stamp sheetlet.

Liechtenstein is predominantly home to flowing waters. Besides the River Rhine and the Inland Canal, there are numerous smaller streams. The Valünerbach stream flows through the picturesque landscape of Liechtenstein's Alpine and local recreation area as well as Lake Gängle in Steg/Triesenberg at 1,300 metres above sea level.

In addition, the small state also has some standing waters such as small lakes and ponds, for instance in the Schwabbrünnen nature reserve in the municipalities of Eschen, Planken and Schaan. The nature reserve, which, as important wetlands, was officially declared a protected area in 1962, is a paradise for noble crayfish and white-clawed crayfish, water scorpions, dragonflies and is home to numerous amphibians as well as muskrats, grey herons, kingfishers and little grebes.
