From February 6 to 22, 2026, the XXV Olympic Winter Games will take
place in the northern Italian cities of Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo, as
well as in Val di Fiemme and Valtellina. Athletic ambition, fairness,
and the Olympic spirit will take center stage in 116 competitions across
16 disciplines. Philately Liechtenstein is dedicating a special stamp to
this major sporting event and the participating delegation of the
Liechtenstein Olympic Team. The “Olympic flame” stamp (face value CHF
1.20) shows the symbolic flame that is traditionally lit in the ruins of
Olympia in Greece. It connects the modern Games with their ancient
origins and stands for peace, unity, and sporting spirit.
The
motif is complemented by the logo of the Liechtenstein Olympic Team and
the official word mark “Milano Cortina 2026.” In the background rises a
winter mountain range, inspired by the Tofane massif in the Dolomites
near Cortina d'Ampezzo. New to the competition program is the discipline
of ski mountaineering, the competitive form of ski touring. While
Cortina already hosted the Games in 1956, Milan will be the venue for
the first time in 2026. The closing ceremony in the Arena di Verona, one
of the most famous historical venues in northern Italy, will mark the
end of the Games.
