A symbol of hope and global peace
We all want to live in peace. We want peace with ourselves, in our neighborhoods, in the country we live in and be-yond. In the midst of these challenges, we ask ourselves the question: what can we do to raise awareness of the value of peace and togetherness?
The embroidered stamp looks simple, but it is made with great craftsmanship and symbolises the complexity of peace. It is both a valid postage stamp and a miniature work of art with a powerful message. The postal companies involved in this project are committed to peace every day and put their words into action. The initiative is proof of the power of people and institutions working to make the world a better place – a collective, timeless desire and appeal for peace.
Like a real dove, this joint project transcends borders to send a message of peace around the world. The joint commitment of postal companies far beyond European borders underscores that love, tolerance and understanding are and should remain the foundation for freedom and solidarity among people, as should diversity of opinions, attitudes and views. This special project is the result of international cooperation between several postal companies, the United Nations, the Universal Postal Union (UPU) and the renowned Austrian embroidery specialist Hämmerle & Vogel. The partnership stands for a shared commitment to promoting peace worldwide. The special edition of the ‘Dove of Peace’ stamp features a uniform dove of peace motif. The name of the country and the respective denomination in the national currency remain individual.
