From February 6 to 22, 2026, the XXV Olympic Winter Games will take place in the northern Italian cities of Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo, as well as in Val di Fiemme and Valtellina. Athletic ambition, fairness, and the Olympic spirit will take center stage in 116 competitions across 16 disciplines.
Philately Liechtenstein is dedicating a special stamp to this major sporting event and the participating delegation of the Liechtenstein Olympic Team. The “Olympic flame” stamp (face value CHF 1.20) shows the symbolic flame that is traditionally lit in the ruins of Olympia in Greece. It connects the modern Games with their ancient origins and stands for peace, unity, and sporting spirit.
The motif is complemented by the logo of the Liechtenstein Olympic Team and the official word mark “Milano Cortina 2026.” In the background rises a winter mountain range, inspired by the Tofane massif in the Dolomites near Cortina d'Ampezzo.
New to the competition program is the discipline of ski mountaineering, the competitive form of ski touring. While Cortina already hosted the Games in 1956, Milan will be the venue for the first time in 2026. The closing ceremony in the Arena di Verona, one of the most famous historical venues in northern Italy, will mark the end of the Games.
Our new self-adhesive definitive stamps are dedicated to “Fasnacht”(meaning carnival), a tradition that is actively celebrated in Liechtenstein. “Fasnacht” comes from Middle High German and literally means the night before the start of Christian Lent.
With these colorful stamps, we want to highlight this tradition that is typical of the region. Shortly after the turn of the year, many venues are decorated and the first masked balls and parades begin. One highlight is the international “Parade” (face value CHF 1.00) in Schaan with over 1,600 participants.
In earlier times, on Fat Thursday, young people would try to lure housewives away from their “Soup pot” (face value CHF 1.20) and steal the pot or the roast. This custom is hardly practiced in Liechtenstein today. On the other hand, the “Guggamusik” (face value CHF 1.90) is very popular.
These are music groups in elaborate costumes who provide loud and eerily beautiful accompaniment to many events and organize big concerts. There are no limits to the imagination when it comes to costumes and “Masks” (face value CHF 2.50). Carnival newspapers such as “Wingertesel,” “Räbahobel,” and many more are also eagerly awaited, as they delight in poking fun at the misfortunes and funny incidents of the past year.
Since its foundation in 1901, the Historical Society of the Principality of Liechtenstein has made a significant contribution to researching and communicating the country's history and protecting its cultural heritage. To mark this occasion, Philately Liechtenstein is dedicating a special stamp to the society on its 125th anniversary.
The Historical Society was founded by committed figures from politics and society and quickly developed into one of the country's most important cultural institutions. Its purpose is to promote history and regional studies and to foster historical awareness.
The association's outstanding achievements include its involvement in the founding of the Liechtenstein National Museum, the implementation and promotion of archaeological research, and the publication of the yearbook, which has documented contributions to the history, archaeology, and culture of the country since the association was founded. The association has also laid important foundations for nature conservation and the preservation of historical monuments.
Through its many years of research, publication, and educational activities, the Historical Society has made a significant contribution to preserving Liechtenstein's cultural heritage and keeping it alive for future generations. The special stamp “Historical Awareness” (face value CHF 1.20) honors this commitment and the great importance of the society for the cultural memory of the country.
For seven decades, EUROPA stamps have symbolized the idea of cooperation and cultural exchange between European countries. Every year, the member countries of PostEurop, which includes Liechtenstein, choose a common theme that they interpret in their own individual designs – expressing European diversity in philatelic form.
To mark the 70th anniversary of the EUROPA stamps, a special “Happy Birthday” stamp (face value CHF 1.90) is being issued. The modern, colorful design picks up on the anniversary theme and conveys joy of life, diversity, and cohesion – values that have shaped the EUROPA program since 1956 and continue to make it a unifying symbol across borders to this day.
