Since its foundation in 1901, the Historical Society of the Principality
of Liechtenstein has made a significant contribution to researching and
communicating the country's history and protecting its cultural
heritage. To mark this occasion, Philately Liechtenstein is dedicating a
special stamp to the society on its 125th anniversary. The Historical
Society was founded by committed figures from politics and society and
quickly developed into one of the country's most important cultural
institutions. Its purpose is to promote history and regional studies and
to foster historical awareness.
The association's outstanding
achievements include its involvement in the founding of the
Liechtenstein National Museum, the implementation and promotion of
archaeological research, and the publication of the yearbook, which has
documented contributions to the history, archaeology, and culture of the
country since the association was founded. The association has also laid
important foundations for nature conservation and the preservation of
historical monuments. Through its many years of research, publication,
and educational activities, the Historical Society has made a
significant contribution to preserving Liechtenstein's cultural heritage
and keeping it alive for future generations. The special stamp
“Historical Awareness” (face value CHF 1.20) honors this commitment and
the great importance of the society for the cultural memory of the
country.
